Nappy Rash Guide

Reducing the Incidence

The best idea is to prevent nappy rash occurring in the first place. You should be changing the baby's nappy regularly, up to 12 times per day for young babies, and up to 8 times a day for older babies. When you change the nappy, clean the whole nappy area thoroughly using plain water. You should also leave the nappy off for 20 minutes at least twice a day so fresh air can be in contact with the skin.

Treating Nappy Rash

If the baby has nappy rash, apply zinc and castor oil cream to the nappy area. If the rash does not improve in a few days, you should see your doctor or child care nurse.
